Hawk Mountain Director of Education Erin Brown talks about the new Distance Education programs now available via Skype by the Sanctuary's Education team. She discusses what the programs entail, how the programs came to be, and what she hopes to accomplish with the programs moving forward.
Listen to our amazing Native Plant Garden volunteers talk about the native plant sale that took place on Sat, Sept 17.
Their dedication to the success of the Garden and sale plays into the Hawk Mountain mission: to educate and share a passion of all natural and native things.
Recorded from Autumn 2015 Lecture by Dr. Robert Curry at Hawk Mountain.
For more than 15 years, Dr. Curry and his students have studied hybridization between Black-capped and Carolina chickadees in southeastern Pennsylvania, aided by important collaborative contributions recently from Cornell ornithologists.
Intensive field studies at 4 sites including Hawk Mountain, combined with analysis of genetic data and eBird observations, have revealed rapid northward movement of Carolina chickadees and hybrids, and the retreat of black-capped chickadees in patterns closely associated with climatic trends.
Dr. Curry will review findings and unresolved questions, and will discuss the study's relevance for helping us understand the broader effects of climate change on biodiversity.
